Message from the
President
Welcome to all our new
members for the coming season. To our past members who have re-signed,
thanks for coming back to the QEII Track Club.
Our 2010 Cross Country
Season is about to come to a close. Membership base and participation
has started to decrease again slightly over the past year for these
athletes.
Last season’s
(2009-2010) total Club Athlete Membership was 166 (23 fewer than the
2008-2009 season) plus 22 coaches and volunteers.
A new Committee was
elected at our AGM in May with all members keen to contribute towards
increasing our Club’s profile. Our profile is already ‘out there’
though, thanks mainly to our quality coaching staff.
Over
the past season outstanding results at the AA Championships held in
Perth for our Senior athletes included – Liam Zamel-Paez (H/J
Gold), Chris Noffke (L/J Silver), Kane Brigg (T/J Silver),
Matt Davies (100m Silver), Patrick Johnson (200m Gold).
One
Club Member has been selected for the upcoming World Junior
Championships in the 800metres and the 4 x 400metres Relay – in Moncton,
– Kuey Diew (Coach Lloyd Way.
Club
member Mitchell Watt competed at the IAAF World Championships in
Berlin in August 2009 and won Bronze – a magnificent achievement.
Along with Liam Zamel-Paez, Patrick Johnson, Chris Noffke and Matt
Davies, Mitchell has been selected for the Australian team for this
year’s Commonwealth Games in India.
During the past season our Club also won two of the QA Shield Meets
which was very satisfying as the deciding factor was mainly due to our
athletes participating in the Track Relays. News items to keep you all
informed of athlete achievements were published on our website thanks to
our Coaches keeping Ian Thompson up to date.
It
was with much sadness that Peter Edwards’ fight for life ended in April
after his battle with brain cancer. Peter’s contribution to our
athletes, coaches and committee over the past six years will be valued
by those who worked closely with him.

Club Member Protection Policy
The QEII Track Club as an
affiliate of Queensland Athletics strongly believes that providing a safe and
enjoyable sporting and working environment is an important consideration for any
sports organisation seeking to support its athletes, coaches, volunteers,
officials and staff in their respective endeavours.
The QEII Track Club has
adopted the
Athletics Australia Member Protection Policy (Click on this link to download
a copy) as this operates as an adjunct to the Queensland Athletics By-Laws so
that all who participate in athletics may do so with the knowledge of the
sport’s commitment to ensuring an appropriate and conducive environment is
provided and that appropriate protections are available if required.
The QEII Track Club and Queensland Athletics
encourage all involved in athletics to familiarise themselves with and work to
this policy. Adoption of this policy and principles will ensure all participants
enjoy their involvement in their chosen sport.
